HVAC TIPS — Furnace

  • Check to make sure that you have power to your furnace. You can check for power at the circuit breaker panel. There is also a power switch on the furnace that should be in the “on” position.

  • Also check for gas service by checking other gas appliances (stove, dryer, oven, water heater) to make sure they have gas service.

  • If you have a thermostat with a battery, most digital thermostats do, check or change the battery. This may affect any programming that you currently have in your thermostat.

  • Check your filter. All furnaces have a filter and changing your filter is the single most important thing you can do for your system. We suggest checking your filter monthly to make sure that it is clean. If you have an electronic air filter or permanent filter, these filters must be washed several times during the course of the year.

  • Check for a fault code flashing at the furnace. There is usually a description of the problem to match the code written on the door of the furnace.
